1984 Tropicana Music Bowl GRAND CHAMPIONS | Lakeland High School Band

Grand Champions of the Tropicana Music Bowl 1984, Lakeland Senior High School (FL) "Death to Old Standards" was the name given to the Dreadnaught Band's dramatic entrance to the Tropicana Music Bowl marching band competition (1984). With this show came a whole new attitude for the band. For competitions, we put away the fire batons, kick-lines and pop tunes to show off our true playing and marching ability. These were extremely hard pieces to perform, let alone march. We marched 180 playing members and used a 60-member color guard, as was the trend in the day. So, to show off our size and our new 'tude, we chose to enter the field double-file. It seemed to make a statement for us that day.
