Kyrie Eleison (Lord Have Mercy) | Misa Pastoril de Jaro

As part of our performance task for our theology subject at the University of San Agustin, we were tasked to sing song that are commonly played during the mass especially in our Diocese (Archdiocese of Jaro). May this help our people know the songs that are sung in every parish and diocese in the Philippines. ABOUT MISA PASTORIL (Explanation by Sta. Ana Parish of Molo) The term "pastoril" comes from the the Spanish word referring to shepherds. In the Archdiocese of Jaro and its suffragan dioceses, the MISA PASTORIL refers to the beautiful musical arrangements for the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, etc. exclusively used on December 16-24 dawn Masses, Christmas and until the Feast of the Lord's Epiphany in January. The Dawn Masses which are familiar to us as "Misa de Gallo" or "Misa de Aguinaldo" is also known as "Misa de los Pastores" hence the term PASTORIL. Each year, Ilonggos would always look forward to the beautiful and timeless Latin songs utilized in Aguinaldo Masses (Misas de la Virgen antes del parto). The unique repertoire of the Misa Pastoril de Jaro reminds many folks of colorful and meaningful Decembers in years past and even up to the present. Even without the aid of a projector, a hymnal or any song sheet, it seems that many Ilonggos have embedded in their hearts the Latin lyrics (or at least the tune) of the sung parts of the Mass (Kyrie Eleison, Gloria in Excelsis, Sanctus, Agnus Dei).
