The story of the Shree Mahalaxmi Jagdamba Mata Mandir in Koradi, Nagpur, is rooted in ancient mythology involving King Jholan and the manifestation of Adi Shakti. Legend of King Jholan and Devi Jakhumai The Ruler: In ancient times, Koradi was known as Jakhapur and was ruled by King Jholan. The Seven Sons: The king was blessed with seven sons—Janoba, Nanoba, Banoba, Bairoba, Khairoba, Agnoba, and Dattasur—but he still felt a deep longing for a daughter. The Divine Birth: King Jholan performed intense prayers, yagyas, and tapascharya (penance) to please the gods. His prayers were answered with the birth of a daughter endowed with divine beauty, whom he recognized as a manifestation of Adi Shakti. The Stop at Jakhapur: According to folklore, the divine princess (often linked to Devi Jakhumai) once accompanied the king into a battle where she showed great justice and power. While returning, she decided to settle and stop wherever the sun set, which became Jakhapur (Koradi). Shri Mahalaxmi Jagdamba Sansthan – Koradi The Swayambhu Idol and Forms of the Goddess Self-Manifested Idol: The main moorti (idol) of the goddess is considered Swayambhu (self-manifested rather than man-made). Daily Transformation: Local tradition and temple lore state that the goddess changes her appearance throughout the day—manifesting as a young girl in the morning, a youth in the afternoon, and an adult/mature form in the evening. Shri Mahalaxmi Jagdamba Sansthan – Koradi +1 Historical Patronage: The shrine gained widespread prominence and historical backing during the Bhonsle Maratha dynasty of Nagpur in the 17th century, which undertook major patronage and development of the site. Modern Recognition: Today, the temple complex is managed by the Shri Mahalaxmi Jagdamba Sansthan (established July 24, 1987) and draws massive crowds, particularly during Navratri. #matarani #mata #jagdamba #koraditemple #koradimandirnagpur
