NOTIONS, the new collaboration between Tony Davoren and Niamh Fahy, make their debut with an atmospheric, groove-driven reimagining of the beloved Irish-language traditional song Dúlaman—a recording that fuses the power of traditional Irish music with modern production, infectious rhythms, and cinematic energy. Tony Davoren, a native of Hollywood, County Wicklow, grew up immersed in Dublin’s traditional music scene before joining the original production of Riverdance. Today he is the host of Welcome Kind Stranger, the weekly Celtic music programme heard on KRVS 88.7 FM, Louisiana Public Radio, and worldwide on MyIrishRadio.com. His recent work also includes serving as the Irish music and cultural consultant on Ryan Coogler’s acclaimed feature film Sinners. In addition to advising the production on Irish musical authenticity, Davoren arranged two of the film’s traditional highlights—Rocky Road to Dublin and Go Lassie Go—while also performing bouzouki and bodhrán on the soundtrack. Joining him is acclaimed fiddler Niamh Fahy, a former member of Riverdance, an accomplished violinist, and a music therapist. Together they also perform with the Austin, Texas-based traditional Irish band The Here and Now, but NOTIONS offers a fresh creative outlet dedicated to contemporary interpretations of traditional Irish music. The single also features an outstanding lineup of guest musicians, including percussionist Robbie Harris of Jiggy and Polca 4, Baton Rouge whistle player Pete Dawson, and musician, recording engineer and producer Kevin Butler of Black Books. Fahy and Dawson also appeared on the Sinners soundtrack, reuniting much of the creative team behind that celebrated production. While Dúlaman marks the debut release from NOTIONS, it also launches a much larger artistic vision. The single is the first release from Next Step, a groundbreaking initiative from CRC Irish Dance Camps designed to bridge the gap between competitive Irish dance and the professional stage. Running August 2–10, the intensive programme brings together advanced dancers to explore choreography, theatre, live music, arranging, production and performance, culminating in the world premiere of an original stage production in Troy, New York, on August 10. Dúlaman is the first glimpse of that vision—honouring tradition while embracing the next generation of Irish music and dance. “Dúlaman” by NOTIONS is available now on all major streaming platforms.
