What happens to Ghana if a major war breaks out thousands of kilometres away? It is easy to think a war in Europe, the Middle East or another major global conflict would remain somebody else’s problem. But in an interconnected world, the effects can travel quickly — through disrupted trade, fuel and food supplies, international travel, communication systems, financial markets and the safety of citizens living or studying abroad. In this documentary, we explore a difficult but important question: If a wider global war were to break out, how prepared would Ghana be? Beyond the politics and military confrontation, we look at what survival and preparedness could actually mean for ordinary people. What happens when the electricity goes out for an extended period? How should families prepare for blackouts? How do you preserve food and access clean water? What happens when mobile networks or the internet become unreliable? How should communities communicate during emergencies? What essential supplies should households have? And what systems does a society need to keep functioning when normal life is disrupted? We also examine what a major international conflict could mean for Ghanaians studying, working and living abroad — and the difficult questions around evacuation, transportation and returning home during a crisis. This is not a prediction that World War III will happen. It is a preparedness exercise: understanding how global conflict can affect countries far from the battlefield and what individuals, communities and institutions can learn from societies that have had to prepare for emergencies. Because sometimes the most important question is not whether the crisis starts in Ghana. It is whether Ghana is ready when the consequences arrive.
