This was going to be my first 737 MAX flight, but the aircraft type was swapped from a MAX 9 to a -900ER at the last minute. The views out the window that night were so great, though, that I got over my disappointment pretty quick. Things got off to a bit of a rough start that evening. An afternoon thunderstorm delayed the plane occupying our gate before us, which delayed the inbound arrival of our plane and caused us to depart 17 minutes late. After we pushed back, the taxiway was blocked by the plane coming into our gate after us, and the taxiway across from us was blocked by other aircraft pushing back from A concourse, so we had to sit for five minutes before we could leave the terminal. After that, things got much better, and before long we were taking off from Runway 16R and making a big right turn towards our destination. We climbed straight to our cruising altitude of FL370 (37,000 ft), and it was a smooth ride the whole way. A little while later, we started our descent over the Cascade Mountains. Once we were past the mountains, just southeast of the airport, we turned to the north to backtrack for an arrival to the south, making a U-turn to the left over the northern suburbs to start our final approach. We got some great views of the city and surrounding area as we approached the airfield. After a smooth touchdown on SeaTac’s Runway 16R, we braked hard to exit the runway on the first high-speed taxiway, which was a little closer to our gate. We slowly made our way across the other two runways, then headed in to our gate on the North Satellite Concourse, where we arrived exactly 14 minutes late—technically, not delayed!
