It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Muhammad Ajaz, the esteemed Chief of Civil Defence Rawalpindi, who passed away on March 12, 2025. Throughout his remarkable career, he demonstrated unparalleled dedication, professionalism, and courage during numerous critical incidents.
Chief Muhammad Ajaz played a vital role in responding to some of the most devastating events in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. His quick actions saved many lives in the aftermath of the Ogry Camp Blasts on April 10, 1988, where he led recovery operations, rescuing victims from the debris of the blast. He also responded to several major fire incidents, including the Ghaker Plaza Fire on December 21, 2017, where his leadership ensured the safety of many.
One of the most notable events he managed was the catastrophic 2001 Islamabad-Rawalpindi Flood, which resulted in the loss of 74 lives and the destruction of over 3,000 homes. Muhammad Ajaz's team worked tirelessly to rescue survivors and provide relief during this unprecedented disaster.
On July 28, 2010, he led the rescue operation for the Airblue Crash in the Margalla Hills, where his team recovered victims and helped bring closure to the families affected by the tragedy. His leadership was also instrumental in handling civil unrest during the Rawalpindi Sectarian Clashes of 2013, where a curfew was imposed to restore peace.
In addition to his critical response efforts, Chief Muhammad Ajaz also took charge of humanitarian projects, including overseeing the full food and shelter responsibilities at Raja Bazar Shelter Home in Rawalpindi, ensuring the care of displaced and vulnerable individuals during times of crisis.
