Trains & Trams at Glenhuntly - Melbourne Transport

Glenhuntly is a unique station in Melbourne, being one of three locations that feature a tram sqaure; a level crossing where the 600V DC tram lines cross the 1500V DC railway lines. This unique level crossing is controlled manually to ensure that the two differing overheads are kept separate. Both trains and trams have to transverse through the tram square slowly. Glenhuntly is the first station on the Frankston line after the line splits from the Cranbourne/Pakenham line at Caulfield. The station originally opened in 1881, although much of the current configuration dates from 1987 when the third track from Caulfield to Moorabbin was built. Here we see a couple of Metro Comeng and Siemens EMU's at the station, then move off to the level crossing where we see more trains, plus some Z3 & B2 Class trams. We then head off to the trackside spot along the walking path where we see more trains. Normally during the off-peak and on weekends, citybound trains would use platform 1, while Frankston trains would use platform 2. However on this occasion work on the Ormond, McKinnon & Bentleigh level crossing removals meant that citybound trains were using platform 2 while Frankston bound trains were using platform 3.
