“Always Known to God” © 2026 Greg Loren Durand [Half Chorus] When we leave this earth, who will mourn, who will come to pray Will we be missed, will we still exist, or will they go about their day [Verse] An old graveyard, a sacred place, haven for the dead Summaries of lifetimes in chiseled lines are read Some stones are upright, some lean, others lying on the ground The oak limbs sing quiet hymns, eulogies without a sound One lone marker draws my gaze, no others near that way Across the top I see engraved, three letters: C.S.A. I kneel to pull the weeds aside and clear the hardened sod So I can see the writing there: “Known Only to God.” [Chorus] When we leave this earth, who will mourn, who will come to pray Will we be missed, will we still exist, or will they go about their day Decades pass, beneath the grass flesh returns to naught Forgotten to the world, but always known to God [Verse] Who was this man, what was his name, did he have a wife Did his children maintain the honor of his life Were hardships seen, what were his hopes and dreams In his losses and pain, was there tranquility between Does the cold stone conceal details of his days Did he know God’s only Son and follow all His ways I contemplate his loyalty to the land he fought to defend Was he a satisfied soul when his life came to an end [Chorus] When we leave this earth, who will mourn, who will come to pray Will we be missed, will we still exist, or will they go about their day Decades pass, beneath the grass flesh returns to naught Forgotten to the world, but always known to God [Bridge] Our lives are but a vapor, vanquished by the breeze In His faithful hand we take a stand, steadfast on our knees Not many of us mighty, not owning wealth or fame But in His Book of Life, He has written down our name Nothing here compares to what awaits us over there He’ll comfort every sorrow, and cancel every care The wrongs of this life will all be made right We will see then with our own eyes the gift we have in Christ [Verse] Who am I, Lord, do You know my name, am I in Your sight When all is said and done, is there purpose to my life Through hardships and hopeless dreams, You have always loved me You have shown that I am known, both now and for eternity [Chorus] When we leave this earth, some will mourn, some will go about their day Loved ones will soon be missed, as they also pass away The Lord will dry the tears we’ve cried, eternity’s our home Faithful to His promises, He has never left His own Joy will spring from the seeds of sorrow that on earth were sown Long after the world is gone, by God we’re always known
