Snowflake obsidian north of Milford, Utah: a whole hill of it, mostly too fractured to cut, so I picked wind slicks instead. 📍 ABOUT THIS VIDEO Collecting and rockhounding obsidian wind-slicks at the Utah snowflake obsidian site. There is a spot where you'll find better snowflake obsidian nearby, but I could not find it. Vehicle Access: Any vehicle can get in. There's obsidian right in the road. Most of the snowflake here is loaded with fractures and would fall apart on a saw, but the wind-slick obsidian is great: pieces sandblasted smooth by the wind, so you can put them in your pocket without shredding it. I pick the ones with natural shine and smooth surfaces, then hike to the east side of the hill, where the gully is basically made of snowflake obsidian. It's tumbler grade, not lapidary cutting grade. Important: Google will route you up a road that is blocked. Watch the end of the video for the road to take.
