This week’s Muay Thai Pads & Partner Drills curriculum centers on the jab, rear uppercut, hook, rear round kick combination, with extra attention on generating real power through proper mechanics and positioning. We start by cleaning up the rear uppercut, using the jab to load the hips and legs before driving the whole body upward into the punch instead of relying on the arm alone. From there, we introduce the swing kick as an advanced alternative to the traditional step-and-kick setup. You’ll work on creating power through rotation and torque while moving your lead foot, opening distance against incoming punches, and attacking the leg. We’ll also use the hook to take a side step and create an outside angle before finishing with the kick. This helps move you away from your partner’s power side while opening a strong target on the outside of the leg. Use this video to review this week’s Fighting Fit curriculum before or after class. Fighting Fit Kickboxing & Jiu Jitsu offers Muay Thai, kickboxing, martial arts, and jiu jitsu training in the Austin, Texas area for students looking to improve their striking, fitness, technique, and confidence.
