In 1977, lava swallowed a village on Réunion Island and reached its church. The people didn't leave — they renamed it Our Lady of the Lava and rebuilt right beside it. Réunion is France, 9,000 km from Paris — an island with one of the world's most active volcanoes, the world record for rainfall in a single day, and villages with no roads at all. And no one was born here first: every family arrived from somewhere else, many in chains. So why do people refuse to leave? This documentary answers it — through runaways who named the mountains, families who sleep in the forest for a Sunday picnic, music that was silenced and survived, and more than 2,000 children who were sent away and spent their lives trying to come home. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ CHAPTERS 0:00 The Door the Lava Didn't Take 6:03 An Island That Isn't Finished 11:53 The Mountains Named by Runaways 17:31 Everyone Came From Somewhere Else 23:23 The Sunday They Sleep in the Forest 29:38 The Children Who Were Sent Away ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🔔 Subscribe to Meridian Wild — the story underneath the postcard. 💬 Where are you watching from — and is there a place YOU could never leave? #Reunion #ReunionIsland #Documentary #MeridianWild #4K
