I Refuse to Fix Refrigerators — These Are the Only 2 I'd Buy
Four years old. That is how long that refrigerator lasted. French doors, exterior ice and water, a little display panel on the front that showed the temperature in both compartments and also, apparently, how much money you were willing to spend on something that was going to die before your car needed new tires. The compressor was fine. The sealed system was fine. What took it down was a control board the size of a paperback book that the manufacturer had already stopped stocking. One aftermarket supplier had it. Two hundred and forty dollars, assuming it was even the right fix, which it might not have been, because by the time a control board fails in one of those machines, it has usually taken two or three related components with it and the error codes overlap enough that you are guessing. The customer bought an appliance. What they actually got was a four-year rental. By the end of this, I am going to name the only two refrigerator configurations I would put in my own kitchen, and I am going to tell you exactly why.
