Mongolia, 1202. The battle is over. Every boy from the defeated tribe is lined up next to a cart wheel. Taller than its linchpin, and your story ends. You're nine. For once in your life, you want to be short.
This is your life as every rank in the army of Genghis Khan, from a captive boy to a commander of ten thousand riders. Captive, herder, soldier of a ten, head of ten, head of a hundred, imperial guard, head of a thousand, head of ten thousand, and finally a lord of the empire. The great hunt, the Great Wall, the desert march to Bukhara, the ride around the Caspian Sea and the battle on the Kalka River.
You'll see how Genghis Khan really built his army: every man from 15 to 70 had to serve, bring his own horses, bows and food, and if one man in a group of ten ran away, all ten were punished. And a few things you probably didn't know: an enemy who shot the Khan's horse became one of his greatest generals, a blacksmith's son became the best commander of his age, and nobody knows where Genghis Khan is buried, even today.
📜 Based on real history: the Secret History of the Mongols, the great assembly of 1206, the decimal army and the imperial guard, the yam postal relay with golden tablets, the Otrar massacre, the fall of Bukhara and Samarkand, Jebe and Subutai's great ride and the death of Genghis Khan in 1227. Altan, Oyun, Ganbold, Khuyag and Saran are fictional, built from real lives of the time.
Which rank would you have stopped at? Tell me in the comments.
