🎣 My Favorite Micro Lures
These tiny lures catch way more than people think. If I could only carry a handful of ultralight and micro-fishing baits, these would be on the list.

Most anglers hear “big bait catches big fish” and start assuming bigger is better. Sometimes it is. But fish eat a huge range of prey sizes, and even very large fish spend plenty of time eating things much smaller than most fishermen realize.
In this video, I break down why micro baits work, how small “small” really is, and why a 2-inch soft plastic is crappie-sized, not bluegill-sized. I also show some of my favorite tiny offerings, including my homemade pink fly jig, a 1/64 oz white PowerBait tube, small hair jigs, the Pins Minnow, and tiny saltwater plastics.
I first learned this lesson from a fishing guide when I was about 10 years old. He handed me a tiny white soft plastic on a 1/64 oz jighead, and it caught nearly everything. I understood that the lure worked, but it took me about 20 years to understand what it meant. Fish were eating prey that size all along.
I’ll also share a few examples of genuinely big fish taking tiny offerings, including a 45-inch striped bass, a 23-inch largemouth bass, black drum on fiddler crabs, and red drum on sand fleas.
This is not an argument that you should always fish tiny. Sometimes anglers are using lures that are too small. The real lesson is to stop choosing lure size based only on fisherman logic and start paying attention to the forage fish are actually eating.
What is the biggest fish you have ever caught on a tiny lure? And what is your favorite micro bait?
