Brandi Carlile - Joni (Live from the Grammy Museum)

I played “Joni” for the first time ever at the Grammy Museum last Monday. Thank you to Blake Mills, Andrew Watt, Mark Isham, SistaStrings, Solomon Dorsey, and Tim & Phil Hanseroth for bringing this song to life. Exactly two years ago tonight we were about to witness Joni Mitchell take the stage with the Joni Jammers at the Hollywood Bowl. It’s not lost on me that these two unbelievable nights — along with these mind-bogglingly talented artists and musicians — could be the catalyst for me to fly alone across the country to Aaron Dessner’s studio to begin the difficult journey of returning to myself. As my friend Cameron Crowe reminded me recently, it was Joni all along… “I'm traveling in some vehicle I'm sitting in some cafe A defector from the petty wars That shell shock love away There's comfort in melancholy When there's no need to explain It's just as natural as the weather In this moody sky today In our possessive coupling So much could not be expressed So now I'm returning to myself These things that you and I suppressed I see something of myself in everyone Just at this moment of the world As snow gathers like bolts of lace Waltzing on a ballroom girl” 'Returning To Myself (Sad Gay Version)’ out now: https://brandicarlile.lnk.to/SadGayVe...
