The Footsteps of a Queen

In 1 Kings 14, Jeroboam's wife attempts to disguise her royal identity to seek counsel from the aging, blind prophet Ahijah regarding her sick son, Abijah. Despite her careful precautions and ordinary garments, the Lord warns Ahijah of her arrival, and he identifies her by the sound of her approaching footsteps before she even enters his doorway. This devotional explores the futility of hiding our true selves and anxieties from God, reminding us that He hears our deepest concerns and recognizes us exactly as we are, even in our darkest moments of pretense.
