9 BANNED BLACK POWER RANGERS IN AMERICA EXPLAINED IN DETAIL | NERD EMPIRE

Black Ranger in Beast Morphers? Black Ranger in Time Force? Yes, they do exist — but you’ve probably never seen them. And have you ever noticed that some Power Rangers seasons don’t have a Black Ranger at all? Yeah… even after more than three decades of history, the number of Black Rangers remains surprisingly limited within the Power Rangers franchise. And that’s not a coincidence. In the original Japanese source material, Super Sentai, Toei has always followed a very specific logic: constantly rotating the core team colors. This choice isn’t just creative — it’s strategic, designed to maximize the potential for new toy lines, merchandising, and licensing opportunities. That decision directly impacts the Western adaptation. In Power Rangers, the absence of the Black Ranger is often justified narratively by the presence of a “counterbalance” color — most commonly green, which frequently fills that role. And the reverse happens too. Traditionally, the darkest-colored suit carries a very clear archetype: the shadowy character. The essential anti-hero. The one who adds layers of conflict, tension, and emotional depth to the team’s overall dynamic. 🛡️ Subscribe, hit the 🔔, and become part of the empire.
