South Africa Weather for Today & Tomorrow Update A deepening trough in the interior, working in tandem with a ridging high-pressure system, will result in scattered showers and thunderstorms across the eastern interior of South Africa, extending into the Free State, North West Province, and the far eastern areas of the Northern Cape Province. Some of these thunderstorms are expected to become severe, bringing the risk of hail, damaging winds, heavy downpours, and frequent lightning. The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail, and excessive lightning over northern KwaZulu-Natal Province, the extreme eastern Free State, and the Mpumalanga Highveld, where flooding and infrastructure damage are likely. Additionally, a Yellow Level 2 warning covers the southern parts of KwaZulu-Natal Province, eastern Free State, Gauteng, central-southern Limpopo, and the Mpumalanga escarpment, warning of possible localized flooding, damage to settlements, and hazardous travel conditions due to strong winds and hail.
