How do we, and our machines, make sense of the signals all around us? Dr. Monika Aggarwal starts with a jumbled sentence your brain can still read, then shows what signal processing is: detecting, locating, recognising and understanding a signal. She covers how the ear hears in frequencies, sensors that act as eyes and ears for machines, how GPS finds you, and how much of the universe we still do not know.
Problem statements for SciHi teams:
1. Sensor data fusion: combine data from several sensors to understand something better, such as health from body signals, local air quality, or whether it will rain.
2. Spotting fakes: tell whether an image, audio clip or video is real or fake.
