✈️ Flying to Cancun International Airport in 2026? Here's everything you need to know before you land at CUN—from immigration and customs to airport transportation, VISITAX, scams, terminals, lounges, food, and our best tips for getting through the airport faster.
And we're not just passing through Cancun—we live in Mexico! As permanent residents, we've flown in and out of every commercial terminal at Cancun International Airport more times than we can count. Here's what we'd want friends and family to know before flying into CUN.
🛂 ARRIVING AT CANCUN AIRPORT
What actually happens after you land? We walk you through immigration, passport control, baggage claim, customs, and the infamous transportation/timeshare gauntlet waiting outside baggage claim.
Cancun is also expanding its biometric immigration e-gates in 2026 with 20 e-gates in Terminal 3 and 20 in Terminal 4, which can make passport control significantly faster for eligible travelers.
🚖 GETTING FROM CANCUN AIRPORT TO YOUR HOTEL
Private transfer, ADO bus, taxi, or rental car?
We break down the transportation options for reaching Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Isla Mujeres, Holbox, and the Riviera Maya, plus the mistakes that can cost you time and money.
🛫 DEPARTING CANCUN AIRPORT
How early should you arrive? Which terminal do you need? What about airport lounges, restaurants, duty-free shopping, and security?
We'll show you what to expect so your trip home is as easy as possible.
💰 2026 VISITAX UPDATE — IMPORTANT!
Quintana Roo's VISITAX is officially required for eligible international visitors, and collection and enforcement procedures continue to evolve.
For 2026, the Quintana Roo government says the VISITAX remains 285 MXN. We recommend checking the official government information and paying through an authorized channel rather than one of the many third-party websites charging additional processing fees.
Bottom line: Our video reflects how inconsistently VISITAX was historically collected, but for 2026 we recommend treating it as required rather than optional and checking the current rules before traveling.
🏖️ Whether you're flying into Cancun for Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Holbox, Cozumel, or anywhere in the Mexican Caribbean, consider this your complete Cancun Airport 2026 travel guide.
👇 Have you flown through CUN recently? Tell us in the comments whether you were asked about VISITAX and whether you were offered access to the new e-gates!
