SB19 Shocked China With GENTO - No Big Promotion Needed A small Filipino group just did something almost no one in the mainstream music press noticed: they built a real, organic following in China years before an official collaboration made the industry pay attention. This is the full story of how SB19 broke into one of the hardest markets in the world. It starts with "Gento," the 2023 single from their Pagtatag! EP that made history as the first song by a Filipino group on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart. Its real breakout came later, when a clip of member Ken (Felip) dancing the choreography went viral on Douyin, and WayV's Chinese members Xiaojun and Yangyang posted their own dance cover sending the song across Weibo and Douyin without a single dollar of paid promotion behind it. By 2024, SB19 had launched official accounts on Weibo, Douyin, NetEase, and QQ Music. Then in 2025, a shared bill with Mandopop icon Jolin Tsai at the Hito Music Awards in Taipei planted the seed for something bigger: "Emoji," their 2026 collaboration from the album Wakas at Simula, co-written by Ken, Pablo, and Tsai herself. Within days, it was trending across Weibo, Xiaohongshu, and QQ Music. We break down why "Gento" caught on, how Chinese fan culture turned that momentum into a real fanbase, and why "Emoji" matters more than the viral wave that came before it plus what this means for P-Pop's place in a conversation usually dominated by K-pop and C-pop. If you think P-Pop deserves this kind of recognition, let us know in the comments.
