What would happen if you were completely alone 40,000 years ago? For prehistoric humans, losing your group could mean losing far more than company. Food sharing, protection, knowledge, care and connections with other groups could all play a major role in survival. In this video, we explore what might have happened if a prehistoric human became separated from their group — whether through conflict, rejection, exile or simply getting lost. Could one person really survive alone? What happened if they became injured or sick? How dangerous was sleeping alone? Could they hunt without help? And could finding another group be the difference between survival and death? Archaeology cannot tell us whether humans 40,000 years ago formally practiced exile as a punishment. But evidence from prehistoric archaeology and research on hunter-gatherer societies shows just how important cooperation and social networks could be. Humans survived not only because of tools, fire or physical strength. One of our greatest survival tools may have been other humans. #Prehistory #AncientHumans #HumanHistory
