For my first experience with LOVEBITES, I’m jumping into their powerful performance of “Holy War,” live at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo in 2020—and these ladies absolutely deliver! From Asami’s soaring vocals to the incredibly tight rhythm section and explosive twin-guitar work, this performance is packed with talent, precision and showmanship. I also explore the song’s connection to Brazilian power-metal band Angra, with Midori’s guitar solo drawing inspiration from former Angra guitarist Kiko Loureiro. The song speaks about war, fear and suffering—but it also made me think about the personal “holy wars” we all face.
