This video was filmed as I walked along the Holyhead Breakwater which shields the port from the Irish Sea Weather. A remarkable structure, it's 1.7 miles (2.7 km) long and took 28 years to build. It's the longest breakwater in the UK, and is an engineering marvel of vast proportions. Work began in 1845 and it was officially opened on 19 August 1873 by Albert Edward, Prince of Wales. On average, 1,300 men were employed to build it and seven million tons of limestone from Moelfre, Anglesey were used in its construction. It's easy to get to from Holyhead Railway Station/Town Centre and highly recommended; allow three/four hours for the full walk. It's so vast, you can easily drive along it (although walking is preferred). You'll find details at

Thanks for watching. I've a couple of other Holyhead vids for you also, ferries leaving and of the station/town centre.
