First time on a Class 398 - Treforest Estate to Cardiff Bay

Managed to get myself on a TfW class 398 this morning, travelling from Treforest Estate to Cardiff Bay. When these trains were first announced to come into service on heavy-rail services, I was highly sceptical. Not having on-board toilets, being 'light rail' rolling stock on heavy rail services and the very unique design were slightly off-putting to me. After several years of waiting and finally riding one for the first time this morning, I think these trains are brilliant. With the whirr of their electric motors, they are highly reminiscent of the S-stock on use on the London Underground and will make for a fantastic replacement for the 150s in my opinion. The lack of toilets on these trains has been a frequently discussed issue on Facebook groups and enthusiast circles who scoff at the 398s as 'not proper trains' and an unworthy replacement of the 150s. Considering these trains will allow journey times on the services they operate to be cut significantly, making the longest journey times only approx 45 mins, the heavy investment in new station facilities and train toilets on commuter services generally being a place you'd want to avoid, I think the issue of these trains not having toilets is blown well out of proportion. Has anyone ever complained about the lack of toilets on trams in Manchester or London Underground rolling stock? I am highly looking forward to these trains being a common sight on the streets of Cardiff city centre. Will be sad to see off the roar of the engines of the 150s and the nostalgia for old ATW rolling stock, but getting rid of these relics from the 80s will bring Welsh transport into the 21st century.
