A tragic borewell incident has been reported from Sihi village in Faridabad, Haryana, where a two-and-a-half-year-old girl named Neha fell into an abandoned borewell while playing near the site on Sunday evening. Rescue teams were immediately called in after the incident, with NDRF, SDRF, police, fire services and other agencies joining the operation. The rescue operation continued for around 10 hours, and the child was brought out in the early hours of Monday. She was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Reports on the borewell's exact depth vary, with several reports putting it in the 250–300 feet range, while other reports describe it as nearly 200 feet deep. The incident has also raised questions about the safety of abandoned and uncovered borewells.
