buy here: https://store.dji.com/product/dji-fli... the DJI Flip launched, I was one of its biggest critics.
The concept was great: a lightweight drone that could hand-launch, follow you automatically, and capture your adventures without needing a controller.
The reality was very different.
Tracking was inconsistent. It would randomly lose subjects. It struggled with mountain biking. It would stall, drift away, and sometimes crash despite having obstacle sensing. Compared to the DJI Neo, it simply wasn't reliable enough for the job it was designed to do.
So I shelved it.
Fast forward a few months and several firmware updates later, and I decided to give it another chance.
To my surprise, DJI has dramatically improved the Flip.
Tracking is now far more reliable. Subject recognition is more consistent. The drone handles changing terrain and lighting much better. New features like Dolly Tracking have been added, and overall confidence in the autonomous flight modes has improved significantly.
In this video I revisit the DJI Flip after months of updates and test it again on mountain bike trails, fire roads, open roads, climbs, descents, and difficult lighting conditions.
Topics covered:
• DJI Flip tracking performance after updates
• Follow Me mode testing
• Direction Track testing
• Mountain bike tracking performance
• Dolly Tracking feature
• RC2 controller experience
• Comparison with the DJI Neo
• Wind performance and stability
• Autonomous flight improvements
• Is the DJI Flip finally worth buying?
My conclusion: DJI released the Flip too early, but they may have finally turned it into the drone it was supposed to be from the beginning.
