Boss GT-Pro Effects - Is a 20 Year Old Unit Still Usable Today?

Having upgraded and replaced my Boss GT-Pro effects processor to a Line 6 Helix rack, I was considering selling the GT-Pro on eBay and/or Reverb. This in turn led me to having a look to see what information I could find out about it online. Firstly, this was to decide how much it might be worth, but secondly, I wanted to include as much information about it as possible in an advert, for anyone who might potentially be interested in buying it. This process ultimately led me to asking myself a more general question, which was, how worthwhile is the GT-Pro still?... would anyone even still be interested in buying it for general use it in 2024, rather than just buying it as a collector’s item? Due to the GT-Pro now being a 17-year-old unit, I couldn’t find a great deal of content online about it in the form of demos or instructional material. Unlike with more modern units, where there are always now hundreds of videos online within days of being released, in 2006 the only material tended to be short promotional videos made by the manufacturers themselves. I had thus planned on shooting a couple of videos myself to showcase some of the sounds within the GT-Pro (to accompany the online second-hand listing). However, I then decided to make a more all encompassing video on the unit for general consumption... so here it is! I had two main two main objectives: A) To showcase the unit and demonstrate some of the core tones and functionality B) To explore how relevant and good the unit is still in modern day set-ups, compared to units on sale today Although I am intending on selling my GT-Pro, I have made this video completely impartially and objectively, so everything I say about it is what I truly believe. I have been critical of the unit in areas where I think it is warranted. My overall conclusion is that the GT-Pro is still a useful tool in home recording environments (this is after all what I have been using it for up until this point), or to use live as more of a multi effects option for modulated effects. I think there are better affordable options than these days for amp modelling, and I am not a fan of the distortion amp and pedal sounds in the GT-Pro. However, I think it is still very usable today to get nice clean tones and certain effects out of, like Reverb, Delay, Chorus etc. This is why my recording rig up until now has included a lot of amp simulations as well as the GT-Pro, and I have always used them both. General Points: This is my first video speaking in front of a camera, so I soon realised that I should have used a proper mic! I do have a condenser mic for recording acoustic guitar and this would have done a far better job than the tinpot sound on the camera mic… but you live and learn! Another point (which I didn’t make clear in the video but should have mentioned), is the GT-Pro did not come with the FC-200 foot pedal that I have shown in use throughout the video. That was always an additional purchase. However, I will be selling them together (if or when I decide to do so) - so I did them both as a complete unit when discussing the specs and functionality for the purposes of this video.
