Super Monaco GP 1992 Super Monaco GP 1992 is an extensive ROM hack of the original Super Monaco GP for the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis that recreates the complete 1992 Formula One World Championship. Rather than being a simple graphics modification, the goal of the project is to faithfully reproduce the 1992 Formula One season while preserving the gameplay and spirit of the original Sega classic. The project is currently under active development. Current Development Status Current revision: 0002 (In Development) Planned changes for Revision 0002: Updated the grid girl graphics on the title screen. The original replacement sprite had been horizontally compressed to fit the original tilemap; it has now been completely redrawn with proper proportions. New individualized Formula One cars on the Driver Challenge screen, based on digitized reference photographs. Every team now has its own unique vehicle instead of sharing the same generic car used in the original game. Increased the number of laps to 6 in World Championship mode. Speed mechanics remain unchanged, but the speedometer is being recalibrated to display realistic values. The Williams FW14B, for example, will now indicate approximately 330 km/h at top speed. Reworked the South African (Kyalami) circuit: Reduced excessive tyre wear. Fixed invisible/ghost advertising blocks causing collision bugs. Improved acceleration on the long downhill section. Updated the British Grand Prix circuit to match the 1992 Silverstone layout, including the revised final complex. Cleaned up graphical map issues on Interlagos and Magny-Cours. Music from second game (read from driver SMPS68K Type2) from format .tra converted and imported to *.smy in order to be read by the chips and compatible with SMPSZ80 Type. Revision 0001 The first post-release update introduced several quality-of-life improvements: Expanded the driver name field on the standings screen (for example, - M. Schumacher is now displayed correctly instead of M. Schumach). The player's chosen name is now shown in the championship standings, replacing the original "YOU". Corrected pit stop screen colours and lap counter. Updated the pre-race team briefing texts. I nitial Release Features The original release already included a substantial amount of new content: Complete 1992 Formula One World Championship. All 16 teams and drivers from the 1992 season. Digitized driver portraits for every competitor. Car performance balanced according to their real 1992 competitiveness. Standardized gearbox configurations so all gears share the same theoretical top speed, with acceleration differentiating each team. Four newly designed circuits: Kyalami Interlagos Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (Montmeló) Magny-Cours New title screen model. Ferrari replaced by the Williams FW14B during the title screen Authentic 1992 race calendar. The original Super Monaco GP mode has been renamed Get Your License, featuring official Speedrun.com records. Significantly more competitive and aggressive CPU AI, making races far more challenging than in the original game. Project Goals The objective is to create the definitive 1992 Formula One experience on the Sega Mega Drive while remaining faithful to the original gameplay. Historical accuracy, improved graphics, refined gameplay and technical enhancements are all developed within the limitations of the original hardware, making the game feel like an official 1992 release rather than a modern reinterpretation.
