Before a boat carried fish or freight, before the wind filled her sails, somebody had to build her. “From the Forest to the Sea” celebrates the boatbuilding heritage of Man-O-War Cay, Abaco, The Bahamas. This storytelling song follows the work from choosing timber in the forests of Abaco to laying the keel, raising the frames, fitting the planks, caulking the seams and launching the finished vessel. It honours the skill, patience and knowledge passed through generations of boatbuilders, alongside the sailmakers whose careful stitching helped carry these vessels to sea. Boatbuilders worked throughout Abaco. This tribute focuses specifically on the craftsmen and boatbuilding traditions of Man-O-War Cay.
