Kôprovský štít (2,363 m) is one of the most rewarding hiking destinations in Slovakia's High Tatras. Starting at Štrbské Pleso, the route passes through forests, follows the beautiful valley of Hincova dolina, and climbs towards the rugged high-mountain landscape surrounding Veľké Hincovo pleso, the largest lake in the Slovak part of the Tatras. For much of the way, the trail shares its route with the popular ascent to Rysy, one of Slovakia's most famous peaks. But while crowds head towards Rysy, Kôprovský štít offers a similarly spectacular mountain experience with considerably fewer hikers. The final ascent follows a rocky ridge, rewarding the climb with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, deep valleys, and countless mountain lakes. The High Tatras may be a relatively small mountain range, but their dramatic terrain, steep granite peaks, and glacial valleys give them a distinctly alpine character. Kôprovský štít is a perfect example: a demanding but accessible high-mountain hike that delivers breathtaking scenery without the crowds found on some of the region's more famous routes.
