Justin the Martyr, a Church Father and theologian, explained that before the Incarnation of the Logos of God, Jesus Christ, the seeds of truth were scattered throughout various earlier traditions, cultures and philosophies, as God had not left humankind entirely in ignorance. Consequently, before the fullness of times, the knowledge about the Logos (Logos Spermatikos) was perceived in antiquity, in part and gradually, through various mythological prisms. In ancient Egypt, for example, the myth surrounding the sacred, heron-like bird ‘Bennu’ (which, according to the ‘green language’, is linked to the Hebrew word ‘Ben’), which was associated with the sun god Ra and Osiris, symbolised cosmic renewal, eternal light and resurrection. During his travels to Egypt, the Greek historian Herodotus recorded stories about this sacred bird, and over the centuries this myth gave rise to the Greek and Roman phoenix – a bird resembling an eagle – which burns itself to death in a nest of spices and rises again from its own ashes. This myth reveals to us what was historically fulfilled in the first century – the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In Pauline theology, however, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are described not merely as a historical event, but presented and explained as an event with cosmic implications, in which the ‘old Adam’, the ‘first Adam’ (the flesh, the false self-image, the false ego, sin, sickness, ignorance, and death, which held humanity captive) was taken upon himself and died, and at his resurrection a new species—the new, unprecedented humanity (in Christ)—arose. From a mystical perspective, the Resurrection of Christ also speaks of His rising within our souls and hearts, when we awaken to Him inside ourselves. We are currently on the third day, the moment of universal awakening, of enlightenment in the depths of our souls, in which we recognise our mystical union with the Holy Trinity and, through this, share in the life of the Son, whilst the Son rises within us. May the Phoenix of Light, Christ within us, arise as we commune with Him. Music is played by Saint Lorenz Lisanga, it is not AI generated.
