There's a beach in Thailand that tourists wrecked so thoroughly the government had to shut it for four years. It's open again now — and they charge you to go.
That's the pattern behind all twelve places in this video. Not places that got unlucky or accidentally popular. Places where somebody counted the tourists, worked out what could be charged, and built the machine accordingly.
You save up. You plan it for months. You look at the same photograph forty times. And then you're standing in it, and there's a queue, an entry fee, and someone at your elbow selling bracelets — and you think: is this it?
We cover Maya Bay and what "reopened" actually means. The Grand Palace, and the decades-old scam still running on the pavement outside it. A floating market that stopped being a market decades ago. Koh Phi Phi Don, where a Burger King greets you off the ferry. Khao San Road, now selling the memory of itself. Patong. Bua Thong. Hua Hin. Ayutthaya. The tiger photograph. Pattaya, where you can see how this story ends. And number twelve — the only one on the list where people don't come away annoyed. They come away feeling like they were part of it.
None of this is a list of places to hate. Thailand isn't the problem. What happened to these specific twelve is.
If one of them got you — if you travelled a long way, paid to get in, stood there and thought this isn't what I was promised — tell me in the comments. I read every one, and the last video I made came almost entirely out of yours.
