Hverir is Iceland's most active geothermal area, located on the slopes of Námafjall mountain near Lake Mývatn in North Iceland. The area is known for its steaming fumaroles, boiling and bubbling mud pots, and colorful mineral deposits. Strong geothermal activity, part of the Krafla volcanic system, creates a barren landscape with yellow, orange, and red earth and the distinctive smell of sulfur. Hverir is one of the most accessible geothermal areas in Iceland and a popular stop along the Ring Road.
