The Veils - Sydney - 20 August 2026

The Veils released their eighth album, “Fragile World”, in June. It was quickly followed by a NZ tour, and very happily for me, two Australian dates. An extensive European tour is happening towards the end of the year. So back to the Oxford Arts Factory, where Finn informed us that they had sold ten more tickets than last year. Who can make sense of the current music scene? The Veils should be playing a sold out SOH. Hopefully, one day they will. Anyway, all of us who were there knew we were in for another brilliant performance. 17 songs were played, six from the new album, as well as one brand newie. I recorded seven: Lungs (00:24) Are You Awake Tonight? (04:24) Birds (08:04) My Foolish Heart (13:25) Jesus for the Jugular (17:30) Love and Death (22:51) Axolotl (25:55) Finn and the band didn’t disappoint. Poignant ballads mixed with driving gothic rock. Another epic light show. Even a sans violin “Axolotl” couldn’t mar this wonderful performance.
