America lost 15,000 farms in 2025, and the farmers left average 58. Does that mean groceries won't get cheaper in 2027?
The number: USDA counted 1.865 million farms in 2025, down from just over 2 million in 2018.
USDA's farm count keeps falling, and the average farmer is getting older. This video follows the numbers to see who is actually leaving, what is happening to the land, and what it means for your grocery bill. We look at USDA's 2027 food price forecast, how little of each food dollar reaches the farm, why farm bankruptcies are rising, and the one number about farmland that explains why it is so hard to start farming. Next to watch: the September consumer price report in mid-October and USDA's next food price update in late October.
