Showcasing the rich history of early Anuradhapura, this video aims to touch the hearts of those who cherish history, archaeology, Buddhism, and culture. The Chief Monk of Sapugasmalkada Viharaya, the Chief Sanghanayake of the Northern Province, Most Venerable Galgamuwe Shantha Bodhi Thero, shared with us the challenges he faced when he first embarked on renovating this sacred site. He gave a long explanation of its long history and acknowledged all those who supported the archaeological project. Today this peaceful site definitely reflects his deep commitment. During our time in the area, we were also blessed to observe monks practising meditation, a serene reminder of the spiritual essence of this place. Beyond its historical significance, the Chief Thero has taken heartfelt initiatives to protect and care for the wildlife, by maintaining lakes and prohibiting hunting in this sacred area. Sapumalgaskada Raja Maha Viharaya is one of Sri Lanka’s most ancient and treasured sites. We hope that, with everyone’s compassion and support, this sacred place will last for generations to come.
