PCOS/PMOS Part 1 mini series: Signs, Symptoms & Diagnosis – Could You Have PCOS/PMOS?
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), increasingly discussed as Polycystic Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS), is one of the most common hormonal conditions affecting women of reproductive age, yet it remains widely misunderstood, and many women experience delays in getting a diagnosis.
In the first episode of our three-part PCOS/PMOS mini-series, Jen and Richa explore what PCOS/PMOS actually is, the signs and symptoms to look out for, and how it is diagnosed.
PCOS/PMOS is about much more than just your ovaries. It can affect your menstrual cycle, skin, metabolism, insulin sensitivity and fertility, with symptoms varying significantly from one woman to another.
In this episode, we discuss:
What PCOS/PMOS is and why it isn't simply an ovarian condition
The common signs and symptoms, including irregular or absent periods, acne, excess facial or body hair and hair thinning
Why PCOS/PMOS can present differently in different women
How PCOS/PMOS is diagnosed and the role of blood tests, ultrasound scans and clinical symptoms
The relationship between PCOS/PMOS, insulin resistance and metabolic health
Why having polycystic ovaries doesn't necessarily mean you have PCOS/PMOS
The importance of understanding the bigger picture when investigating hormonal symptoms
Whether you've recently been diagnosed, suspect you might have PCOS/PMOS, or simply want to understand your hormones better, this episode will help you make sense of a condition that can often feel confusing and overwhelming.
This is the first of three episodes exploring PCOS/PMOS. In the next two episodes, we'll look at medical management and the role of nutrition and lifestyle in supporting hormonal and metabolic health.
