No seu contexto formal, a marrabenta representa as alegrias e os entusiasmos espontâneos da juventude. A sensualidade que se lhe surpreende é comum a todas as danças e músicas africanas. Embora possa ser dançado em grupo, em roda, a marrabenta é normalmente dançada aos pares. Os dançarinos simulam durante a dança uma perseguição do rapaz à rapariga recheada de incidentes e permanentemente encorajada por provocações ingénuas por parte dela, que, por sua vez, também pode actuar como se fosse a perseguidora. No movimento fundamental, o cavalheiro e a dama, virados um para o outro, deslizam suavemente para os lados em pequenos movimentos circulares e envolventes – contudo, em momento algum da dança existe contacto corporal. Os movimentos podem ser desencontrados. Na marrabenta, o corpo nunca se torna rígido: os ombros, a cabeça, e o busto permanentemente as inflexões do ritmo. Os braços ora descansam ora sobem até à nunca, ora se espreguiçam. Here we share "Moçambique", released by the Mozambican record label Bayete in 1977. **"Marrabenta is a cultural expression rooted in Mozambique. In its traditional form, it embodies the spontaneous joy and enthusiasm of youth. The sensuality it conveys is characteristic of many African dances and musical traditions. Although it can be performed in a circle as a group dance, marrabenta is most commonly danced in pairs. During the dance, the performers enact a playful courtship in which the young man pursues the young woman through a series of light-hearted episodes, constantly encouraged by her teasing provocations. At times, she may even reverse the roles and become the pursuer. In its fundamental movement, the man and the woman face one another and glide gently from side to side in small, circular, flowing motions. At no point, however, do they make physical contact. Their movements may also deliberately fall out of sync. In marrabenta, the body is never rigid: the shoulders, head, and torso continuously respond to the rhythm's subtle inflections. The arms alternately rest, rise toward the nape of the neck, or stretch outward.
