04:51 AM. High above a foggy void, a broad wet terrace runs along the foot of a colossal concrete wall. The wall fills most of the view and carries on past the top of the frame, with a taller block stepping up behind it. From it a massive slab cantilevers out overhead, its underside deep in shadow. At terrace level, one doorway stands open and lit, glowing warm white — the only warm light anywhere in the frame — and its light falls straight down the wet paving in one long unbroken reflection. A few small lamps burn under the cantilever high above. A small pod juts from the wall with a short white strip along its edge. A low iron railing runs along the far side of the terrace, and past it there is only fog, with a scattering of faint lights somewhere far below. Nobody comes through the door. Nothing crosses the terrace. The wall keeps that one doorway lit above the fog, tended for no one, holding its own quiet work through the deep small hours. This is the one hundred and seventh chapter of Sterile 0347 — a 96-minute ambient drone composed for the dead hours of night. A sustained chord is held for minutes, drifting very slowly into another, shifting by small degrees. A deep low drone carries the weight of the piece, thick and even underneath everything, with cold monolithic pads set back above it in the midrange. The top end is almost entirely absent. Bleak, cavernous, austere, and very wide, built to wrap the listener in a calm, restful focus.
