Sometimes the best decision isn't picking the perfect spot... It's knowing when to leave. Today's hunt started at the site of a long-gone hospital from the late 1800s and early 1900s. The first clue was purple manganese glass scattered across the ground—a great indicator of older activity—but after a few interesting finds, it became clear this wasn't going to be the hunt I was hoping for. So I changed locations. That decision paid off with multiple wheat cents, a beautiful silver ring, an old Ball/Mason jar milk glass insert, vintage relics, and plenty of reminders that you never really know what's waiting beneath your coil until you dig it. I also talk a little about something that's important to me. Some days I don't go detecting because I'm looking for treasure. Some days I go because I need to. Metal detecting has always been a way for me to clear my head, get outside, and reset. Maybe some of you can relate. Finds from today's hunt: • Silver ring • 1919 Wheat Cent • Second 1919 Wheat Cent • 1941 Wheat Cent • Ball/Mason jar milk glass insert • Vintage decorative key/fob • Old light bulb • Rabies vaccination tag • Miscellaneous relics If you've ever used purple manganese glass to identify an old homesite, I'd love to hear about it. And if you've ever started at one location only to have another location completely save the day, let me know in the comments. I'd also love to hear: Do you detect because you enjoy the history...or because it helps you clear your mind?
