A simple head gasket job turned into a full VG33E engine pull. In this episode of my 1st Generation Nissan Xterra series, I get my 2002 Nissan Xterra ready to come apart and show you exactly what needs to be done BEFORE the engine comes out. I originally planned on just repairing the head gasket, but after getting a good look at the engine I found some critical issues that changed the plan: a broken lower portion of the oil pump and a very bad rear main seal. In this 18-minute video I prep for the pull by: Removing the starter Installing Engine Hoist Level Removing the bell housing bolts Removing the crankshaft position sensor f you're chasing a head gasket on an Xterra (or any VG33E) and wondering whether you should just pull the motor, this is the series for you. Subscribe and follow along — the actual pull is coming next.
