Episode 814 Stan (Bernard Youens) and Hilda (Jean Alexander) prepare to swap jobs for the day. Trade at the corner shop picks up thanks to nosy locals fascinated by Steve’s (Paul Maxwell) death. Hilda tells a displeased Annie (Doris Speed) that Stan will be cleaning the Rovers. Len (Peter Adamson) tells Ray (Neville Buswell) the police found his fingerprints all over Steve’s flat. He admits he went there to thump Steve but only punched the wall before leaving. Annie is horrified when Stan suggests having a pint break instead of tea. Ena (Violet Carson) criticises Hilda’s window cleaning. The police arrive to escort Len to an identity parade, when Len loses his temper, he is labelled by Det. Inspector Castle (Hugh Cross) as having a violent streak. Jack (Arthur Leslie) persuades Annie to let Stan go. Dot (Joan Francis) worries that a newspaper photo of her with Gregg (Bill Nagy) will be seen by Walter (Derek Benfield) in Stornoway. Dave admits to Elsie (Pat Phoenix) that he doesn’t believe Len is guilty. Castle visits No.11 and tells Gregg that his alibi with Sally Wells has been corroborated, dropping him in it with Dot. Len and Elsie talk with Dave’s clerk Ted Loftus (Ted Morris), who reveals Steve owed Dave more than £1,000 — and Dave was gunning for him…
