Escape the Las Vegas heat on the Fletcher Canyon Trail in the Mount Charleston Wilderness! This out-and-back hike climbs through pine forest along a mostly dry wash, passes Fletcher Spring, and ends in a narrow slot canyon with towering, limestone walls. It's one of the best short hikes in the Spring Mountains and only about 45 minutes from the Strip. TRAIL STATS Distance: about 3.5–4 miles round trip Elevation gain: about 900 ft Trailhead elevation: about 6,900 ft Difficulty: Easy to moderate Type: Out-and-back Dogs: Allowed (please leash them, since the trail is busy) GETTING THERE From Las Vegas, take US-95 north to Kyle Canyon Rd (NV-157). Drive about 18 miles up the canyon. Parking is on the south side of the road, and the trailhead is right across on the north side. There's no gas on the mountain, so fill up before you head up. TIPS It's 20+ degrees cooler than the valley. Bring a layer! The slot section ends at a large boulder. Going farther takes some scrambling. Watch the weather: the canyon is prone to flash floods. The first stretch is shared with horses. Go early on weekends; this trail is popular.
