Beneath a wall of nettles in Malton, North Yorkshire, three eras collide. In just three days, the team hunts a medieval castle beside a Jacobean mansion facing the River Derwent. Cut through the undergrowth with us as a 12th–13th century wall with a shallow buttress emerges, a bizarre frog-shaped aquamanile surfaces from the rubble, and window lead, glass and a stone mullion pinpoint a lost Jacobean range beyond the old lodge gatehouse. Roman fort defenses loom nearby, raising a bold question: did the first timber castle reuse those lines? With only five trenches allowed on this Scheduled Ancient Monument, the pressure builds. One trench promises answers, then is halted to protect formal gardens. Meanwhile, a forge hisses to life as we test the steel of the period. From market-town maps to geophysics printouts, every clue tightens the net. Want to see how castle, mansion and fort finally lock into place? Watch the full investigation to catch the reveals we can only hint at here. #TimeTeam #Malton #Archaeology #Medieval #Jacobean #RomanFort #NorthYorkshire
