Odisha Targets Global Chemical Industry Growth | CM Mohan Majhi Invites Investors at India Chem 2026

Odisha Targets Global Chemical Industry Growth | CM Mohan Majhi Invites Investors at India Chem 2026 Odisha is aiming to play a major role in India’s ambition to become a $1 trillion chemical industry hub by 2040. Speaking at India Chem 2026 in Mumbai, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi highlighted the state’s potential to transition from a mineral-based economy towards chemicals and petrochemicals. Odisha’s established steel and aluminium industries, industrial infrastructure and three major ports—Paradip, Dhamra and Gopalpur—offer opportunities for new investments. Paradip is emerging as a key petrochemical hub, supported by Indian Oil Corporation’s 15-million-tonne-per-year refinery and its petroleum chemical complex. The Paradip Plastic Park is also expected to encourage downstream industries such as polymers, packaging and technical textiles. Meanwhile, Gopalpur is developing opportunities in refrigerants, fluorochemicals, green hydrogen and green ammonia. Coal gasification-based urea production in Talcher and the technical-grade ammonium nitrate project in Lakhanpur are among the initiatives expected to strengthen Odisha’s chemical industry. The Chief Minister also highlighted the state’s investment proposals, stating that Odisha had received proposals worth more than ₹22.5 lakh crore in less than two and a half years, with over ₹12.5 lakh crore receiving high-level approval. He invited industrialists and investors to invest in Odisha and become partners in building a prosperous state.
