Lagos is currently witnessing one of the biggest transformations in the history of its international airport.
After decades of operating with ageing facilities, Murtala Muhammed International Airport is undergoing a major rehabilitation and
expansion programme intended to give Nigeria's busiest international gateway a completely different look and, more importantly, a much better passenger experience.
And from the latest construction progress, the transformation is becoming increasingly visible.
The airport bridge connecting the terminal areas has reached a major construction milestone.
Work is progressing on the façade of Terminal 1, the Central Square is being redesigned, and the installation of glass roofs, mirrors, floor tiles
and other architectural features is gradually changing the appearance of the airport.
Even more importantly, internal rehabilitation works on Terminal 1 are now moving into another phase.
But while the transformation looks promising, there is one issue that continues to generate debate: the cost.
The Federal Government approved approximately ₦712.26 billion for the wider airport modernisation project, and many Nigerians are questioning whether the amount is justified.
Some people believe the airport is finally receiving the upgrade it deserves.
Others argue that the visible work does not appear to match the enormous price tag, particularly because the old concrete structure of Terminal 1 has not been completely demolished.
So, what exactly has been achieved so far? What is still under construction? What improvements are expected inside the terminals? And is the government getting value for money?
In today's video, we will examine the progress of the Lagos airport renovation, the different components of the project and the controversy surrounding its cost.
Let's get into it.
