DIY Homemade Brake Device for Testing Model Steam Engines Under Load!

Welcome back to Blue Heeler's Model & Toy Steam Engine Room! In today's video, we are stepping away from just running engines to look at a handy piece of workshop fabrication: a DIY homemade brake device designed to put a miniature model steam engine under a proper working load. When you want to see how an engine really performs, letting it free-run only tells half the story. I spent some time out in the workshop putting the metal lathe and milling machine to work to build this custom load brake. It allows us to apply variable, controlled resistance to the flywheel, letting us test torque, observe governor responses, and see how different boilers and setups handle actual work. Building your own diagnostic workshop tools is half the fun of the hobby!
