10 Neighborhoods Where Life Is a Daily Struggle

What is everyday life really like in some of the world's toughest neighborhoods? From the crowded waterfront communities of Lagos to the steep hillsides of Rio de Janeiro and the densely packed streets of Nairobi, this documentary takes you inside 10 neighborhoods where daily life can mean navigating difficult living conditions, limited services, economic pressure, and uncertainty. We explore the realities behind the headlines, including: Tondo, Philippines — life in extremely limited urban space. Makoko, Nigeria — a community shaped by its waterfront environment. Dharavi, India — the businesses, workshops, and livelihoods behind a densely populated neighborhood. Mathare, Kenya — flooding, displacement, and the loss of livelihoods. Rocinha, Brazil — daily life across a steep, densely built hillside. Orangi Town, Pakistan — community-led efforts to improve sanitation. Khayelitsha, South Africa — transport challenges, access to jobs, and the legacy of historical planning. Manshiyat Naser, Egypt — the recycling economy supporting local livelihoods. Kibera, Kenya — the daily realities of housing, work, education, and essential services. Cité Soleil, Haiti — how insecurity and disrupted services affect ordinary families. These communities are not defined by hardship alone. Behind the difficult conditions are people working, raising families, running businesses, educating children, and building their futures. This documentary looks beyond the surface to explore the challenges people face, the ways communities function, and why lasting improvements in safety, infrastructure, healthcare, and education matter. Watch until the end for a wider look at the people and communities behind these stories.
